GCSE results day success for the class of 2024

Congratulations to all the learners who received their GCSE and Level 2 BTEC results today! At Coleg Gwent, we’re celebrating incredible pass rates for the class of 2024.

This year, we’ve seen a 90.8% pass rate for GCSE Maths and an impressive 97.4% pass rate for GCSE English.

At Coleg Gwent, learners have the chance to retake their Maths and English GCSEs while studying higher level academic or vocational courses. There are many reasons why people chose to do this, such as not achieving the results needed in their first attempt, wanting to upskill, expanding career options, or increasing their chances of getting into university. Regardless of your motivating factors and ultimate objectives, Coleg Gwent can help you in achieving your goals.Ìý

Mark Harding, Associate Director of Lifelong Learning & Skills commented:Ìý “Our learners have demonstrated remarkable dedication, with many achieving good grades across both English and Mathematics. The hard work of our learners, coupled with the unwavering support of our dedicated teaching staff, has truly paid off. I would like to congratulate everyone who has achieved success today and wish them all the very best for the futureâ€

Congratulations to all theÌýstudents who have worked hardÌýto achieve their goals and make their dreams a reality.

Here are some of our success stories:

Daisy-Mae GoreingÌý

Campus: Blaenau Gwent Learning Zone

Grades: B – English

“When in secondary school I struggled with English and as a result of this, when it came to my year 11 exams I achieved a D Grade in English language. I could have chosen not to study English in college and stuck with the grade I got but I knew that I had the potential to aim higher and achieve a better grade. The main piece of advice I would give to students studying GCSE Maths or English is go for it, the year will fly by and as long as you work hard, you’ll make yourself proud and it will all be worth it.”

Osian Townsend JonesÌý

Campus: Newport

Grades: B – English. A* – Maths.

“The results I achieved in my studies have been a fantastic achievement for me, and I made some great friends over the year I was here. I feel that I have come such a long way academically that it’s hard to realise that I’ve achieved so much in only a year.

Amy Leigh EngstromÌý

Campus: Blaenau Gwent Learning Zone

Grades: C – Maths

“I plan to study for a Law degree at university after receiving my Extended diploma this year. While studying GCSEs at Coleg Gwent I picked up on valuable learning techniques and methods that work well for me and that I use confidently. These skills and methods can transfer to other subjects I will be studying in the future, making them invaluable to the progression of my education.”

Matilda Sefton

Campus: Torfaen Learning Zone

Grades: C – English

“My results have made me extremely pleased with my decision coming to Coleg Gwent this year. I hope to finish my Level 2 and 3 with flying colours and have a career in Art Therapy. Along with retaking my GCSEs my passion has grown more with the techniques I have learnt.”

Callum WettenÌý

Campus: Crosskeys

Grades: A – English

“After this year, I’m intending to undergo a 1 year access to higher education course for engineering with the goal to begin my undergraduate degree at University in 2025. Studying English specifically allowed me to achieve a qualification which proves my ability to articulate effectively and report thoroughly which is key for a career in engineering.”

We’re excited to welcome you for freshers this September, and if you haven’t applied yet, it’sÌýnot too late to join us. We look forward to seeing you in September.
