In a nutshell

In 1851 Frederick Scott Archer discovered the Wet Plate Collodion process, allowing the first glass negatives and image reproduction via albumen prints. This one-day wet plate collodion masterclass offers you the opportunity to learn this historical process.

Using our studio and darkroom, you'll learn to create unique imagery using silver and light to produce tintypes (wet collodion on aluminium). Your image will emerge on a sheet of anodised aluminium to create a truly beautiful one-off image.

This course is for...

... Creative individuals
... Those with a keen interest in photography
... Anyone interested in alternative process photography

Course content

You'll learn this beautiful process using wet-plate darkroom camera equipment in our studio. You'll learn how to prepare chemistry and apply it to the wet plate.

There will be an introduction to large format camera systems and how to use a photographic studio and you'll then create wet plate portraits of one another, finishing with a tutorial on varnishing and scanning finished plates.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

Additional information

Clothing appropriate for use in a darkroom is necessary, but also be aware that you want to be photographed.
