School Engagement at Coleg Gwent

At Coleg Gwent, we are dedicated to building strong relationships with our local schools and motivating students to explore the range of pathways available to them.

Whether you are looking for a school assembly to introduce students to the world of further education or a hands-on customised workshop tailored to specific subjects and career paths, we have a session that meets your school’s objectives.

Available Sessions:

A) Introduction to Coleg Gwent (assembly)

In this engaging 30 minute assembly, led by our Heads of Learner Services, students will experience an introduction to life at Coleg Gwent.

Duration: 30 mins

Location: In school

Audience: Year 9 / Year 10 / Year 11

Delivered by: Head of Learner Services

What to expect

The assembly is designed to provide an overview of Coleg Gwent, our campuses, facilities and the types of study options.

Students can expect to receive information on transitioning from school, support, finance, and the application process.

B) College Clinic (application help and guidance surgeries)

These sessions are best suited to those students who want to attend college for their further study. Our friendly and experienced team will help students on making a college application, while offering invaluable advice on finance and transport.

Duration: Up to 1 hour

Location: In school – computer room needed

Audience: Year 10/Year 11

Delivered by: Head of Learner Services, CG Support team

Highlights:

  • One to one application support
  • Tailored guidance on grants and transport
  • Advice from CG Support, our Coleg Gwent support team
  • Small group sessions

What to expect

Our staff are on hand to help guide your students through the application process, and can even advise on the best subjects based on desired careers.

Students will have the opportunity to ask questions around finance and transport options, including applying for EMA and the Coleg Gwent bus pass.

C) Customised Subject Workshop

These customised subject workshops led by our experienced teaching staff, are introductory sessions lasting between 1-3 hours. The workshops can be tailored to suit the needs and ages of the students, ranging from primary school to Yr 11.

Duration: Between 1-3 hrs

Location: In school or on a Coleg Gwent campus

Audience: Primary to Year 11

Delivered by: Subject tutors

Why Attend?

A personalised workshop offers students the opportunity to explore their academic and career interests through a hands-on session with the guidance of our experienced tutors.

Recent sessions have included STEM and Engineering focussed workshops, career talks, Coding and ICT tasters, an introduction to childcare and much more!

D) Parents / Careers / Options Evening

We can attend an above event with staff ready to give guidance and advice about starting at Coleg Gwent.

Duration: 1-3 Hours

Location: At your school

Audience: Year 9+

Delivered by: Learner Services Team / Outreach Team
