What will I be doing?
Completion of this one-year BSc (Hons) Veterinary Nursing Science (Top Up) degree will enable you to compete for graduate positions based in the Veterinary Nursing Profession and other Animal health and welfare industries. Our BSc (Hons) Veterinary Nursing will develop your ability to engage with evidence-based practice, enabling you to make progressive contributions to the Veterinary Nursing Profession.
The 120 credit course will include:
- A university-led research module
- Vertebrate zoology
- Animal ethics and welfare
- Advances in animal health and behaviour
- Advanced clinical nutrition.
Lecturers include Bethan Lewis, Kate Beavan RVN, Rhiannon Stundon RVN, Michelle Cooper, Jess Ingleson, Clare Clift RVN.
Assessment will be varied and ongoing throughout the year long course, to include group discussion and critiques, investigation projects, portfolio work, presentations, practical assessment and reports.
You’ll achieve a BSc (Hons) Veterinary Nursing.
What is expected of me?
The BSc (Hons) Veterinary Nursing (Top Up) Degree is Year 3 entry only. A pass in the Foundation Degree in Veterinary Nursing at Coleg Gwent, or one of the other RCVS accredited FdSc Veterinary Nursing is required.
The usual timetable for this course runs over one/two days per week and students will be expected to attend all sessions. There will be an expectation for students to complete at least 20 hours per week of independent study and research. Some teaching sessions will be held at the University of South Wales Glyntaff Campus, Pontypridd, although most will be delivered from Coleg Gwent’s Usk Campus.
What comes next?
Completion of this one-year BSc (Hons) Veterinary Nursing Science (Top Up) degree will enable you to compete for graduate positions based in the Veterinary Nursing Profession and other Animal health and welfare Industries. Should you wish to continue your Higher Education you could progress onto a related Masters Degree.
Additional information
You’ll be taught through lectures, tutorials and practical work. Some of the delivery may be provided by guest speakers. Self-directed study plays a part in all modules and is supported by the University 's virtual learning environment. The proportion of self-directed study depends on the module and can range from 50% to 80%. This course is jointly delivered by Coleg Gwent, at our Usk Campus and the University of South Wale, Treforest and lesson delivery will be divided between Usk and Treforest, please ask for details when you visit one of our open events.
