In a nutshell
This course will give you the opportunity to gain practical competency, based on an underpinning knowledge of veterinary care assistant and veterinary receptionist practice. This will enable you to further your career in providing support to veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses in practice, helping them to care for sick and injured animals.

This course is ideal if you are already employed or volunteering in a small animal veterinary practice and are ready to train as a veterinary care assistant or veterinary receptionist.
Course content
Experts from the field of veterinary nursing will deliver lectures and you will take part in discussion forums and group work.
This qualification is ideal for learners who want to become veterinary nurses but are not yet ready to begin the LANTRA Level 3 Diploma Veterinary Nursing.
Entry Requirements
You’ll need to be able to demonstrate knowledge of why you want to work with animals in a veterinary practice. Full commitment to attendance is required. Respect for others, enthusiasm for the subject and self-motivation are the essential qualities we expect to see in all our learners.
Minimum of 4 GCSEs grade D or above to include either Maths/Numeracy or English/Welsh first language OR an appropriate Level 1 Diploma qualification in the relevant vocational area, to include either GCSE Maths/Numeracy or English/Welsh first language grade.
A telephone interview with the Course Leader will be conducted as part of the application process, to ensure this is the right course for you.
You will need to be 16 years or over.
Additional information
Upon completion, you’ll achieve the LANTRA Level 2 Diploma in Veterinary Care and Animal Welfare.
Your lessons will be over two days a week and you will undertake work experience for the duration of the course.
You’ll be assessed via an online portfolio and a multiple-choice question assessment.
You can choose to undertake the Veterinary Care Assistant or Operational/Reception Duties vocational pathway for small animal species: cats, dogs, rabbits.
