With a passion and a love for caring for animals,听Erin听studied听our听Foundation听Degree in听Veterinary Nursing听at听Usk听Campus听to fulfil her听childhood听dream of becoming a vet nurse.听Hear all about Erin鈥檚 experience of a university-level course at Coleg Gwent听and how she made her dream a reality:
鈥淐oleg Gwent is one of the only local colleges that do the听Foundation听Degree in听Veterinary听Nursing.听Not many others do it!听Knowing that the tutors are听also听veterinary nurses is great too. It helps as they understand the role and have experience in it!
Something I鈥檝e really enjoyed about my higher education course is learning nursing styles and what I can听actually do听and achieve.听I loved learning the science behind it all!听My favourite听part is听anaesthesia,听as it听is a massive part of听the听veterinary nursing role.听But听I loved it all to be honest.听It was听definitely the听right decision for me.
I wanted听to听be the best veterinary nurse I can,听by听expanding听my skills by听working in听different practices and becoming a locum.听I鈥檝e听now听started my own business听as a听locum veterinary nurse,听meaning I鈥檓听self-employed. I have a recruitment agent and an accountant, and听I go around other practices and work when and where they need me.
