In a nutshell

This qualification has been developed to enable learners to demonstrate competence in their engineering occupation in an hands-on role such as hand fitting, machining, milling, CNC or turning skills. The qualification is applicable to a wide variety of engineering occupations within the sector, dependent on the pathway chosen.

This course is for...

The qualification has been designed by industry for individuals involved in an engineering role whatever the sector.

Learners may typically be responsible for the day-to-day running of equipment and for the quality of work. They are also capable of monitoring and controlling equipment and quality and can also exercise some judgement and decision making about the engineering process.

Course content

This is a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ). It involves the skills and knowledge needed for occupations in engineering including the ability to organise work and identify and prevent problems.

The learner must present evidence (recorded in a portfolio) which clearly shows they have met the assessment criteria and learning outcomes of the units chosen.

The learner must achieve the mandatory and optional units relevant to their pathway and occupational role.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course, however, the qualification will be partly judged on observed assessments in the workplace so learners must work in an engineering environment.

Additional information

This qualification is delivered in the workplace, not on campus for individuals to attend. Delivery dates are agreed in advance with you and your employer.

This qualification is comprised of 6 units. It may take 6 to 14 months to complete. It is self-paced but our assessor team will put an initial plan in place to complete a unit per month, it is possible to complete it sooner. A formal quote can be issued once we understand your training need but as a guide, we charge £500 per person plus additional awarding body registration fees (circa £80).
